Hello,

So I setup a fresh install of Arch Linux today with just the base kde and then be::shell and bespin and man is it fast!!!  And at start-up I'm only using 360MB of RAM  That's pretty awesome on a kde based shell I am using wicd and the wicd-curses for my wireles connection trying to keep it specifically qt/kde based (I know wicd has a gtk front end but I'm not using it).

Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about maybe using google + (or something else) to discuss things about BE:SHELL, KDE or anything Linux related.  If this sounds interesting to you shoot me a note and I'll give you my google + name.

I just think it would be great instead of typing on here back and forth that we can discuss it in kinda person to person.

If we get enough people who knows we could use something else that supports audio/video that can handle allot of people.  I haven't really used google + and don't know what the most people you can talk to at once is.

Well I haven't posted anything on my journal in a long time so I thought now is a good time.

I just downloaded BE:SHELL from the creator who made bespin and it is pretty sweet!.  There config files you edit and add css or i should say qt-css to them to create the look you want with the panel and such.

I don't know a ton of css but making gtk 3 themes really helped in understanding all the settings.  So far I am loving BE::SHELL and see myself using it for my everyday shell both at work and at home.  There are a few things I have requests into Thomas, but other than that it is SWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!

Give it a try if you use kde and let me know if you need any help.  I'll try my best to answer any questions (i'm still learning as well).

Hey everyone,

Just found this awesome qt media player Tomahawk .  It is pretty awesome!!  the cool thing it's a social/personal player meaning you can share what your listening to with your friends.  Just thought I would share.  it looks like it's cross platform as well [link] here's a screenshot of it

Well I got gentoo with kde installed but tried installing bespin and it's not even in the main repos and when I tried to add it through laymen it keeps asking me about a name changed researched and there is no how really to do it. It's a bummer cause I really wanted to use it.  I may keep it installed and just try again, just a pain in the a** LOL!!  

If you know of an easy way to install say chromium bespin cairo-dock let me know

I decided to install gentoo again after a few years of not using it I want to see how much i can squeeze performance outta of my system   I'm going to go with KDE on it.  Of course I have Arch still on another drive.

I fixed it by rebuilding cairo-ubuntu YAY!!!

Well I just tried the updates on my desktop and bam!! same dang thing!!  I noticed there were xorg updates at least I have this chakra on a spare hard drive ha!

Man so I was working today and in Gnome shell and I was running updates on my laptop and all of a sudden my laptop like started acting weird and so I restarted it and guess what?  

The friggin thing wouldn't get back into gnome it booted fine but would not load gnome gdm.  So I had a light kde install on it and fired up kdm and was able to get it to at least login to kde but tried to log in to gnome and it spit me back to the kdm login.  I logged into kde and backed up all my stuff and wiped it clean thinking okay I'll re-install Arch actually I tried re-installing from the ArchBang CD and got that installed and installed Gnome like I usually do and guess what?  It did the same dang thing!!!  

So I'm like this sucks!! did some research on the arch forums and couldn't find anyone else having the same problem.  So I downloaded ubuntu and that is working fine.  I'll probably play with that a little while but try gnome on it and see.  

I need this laptop for work and it can't be down to long.  i don't know what the deal is, maybe some recent updates is all I can think but it's weird that it happened to me twice.  At least this gives me a chance to maybe work on making my gtk themes compatible with unity huh LOL!

At least on my desktop at home I have chakra and arch gnome (and that is still working for the time being ha!!  

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated   I love arch but every once in a while it does this.

So this weekend I was messing around with my desktop and thought I would try GPT  [link] out the link if you don't know what GPT is.  I had a few issues (but they were my mistakes on not understanding or reading the wiki good enough).  But I eventually got it setup with btrfs as my root to try out and I'm liking it so far.

I installed Gnome 3 on it and changed it the way I like it.  The reason I did this to learn and I love trying out different things.  After all I am in the I.T. Field and have to keep my skills sharp

If there's anything you would like to know ask

Anybody running Funtoo?  I used to use Gentoo back in the day and it was fast but the compiling time was crazy!  If your running Gentoo/Funtoo what are the advantages now say compared to Arch Linux?

I have been modding like a madman!!!!

I just can't stop I have had this all built up for years, but never knew how to really tweak my desktop except with other talented peoples creations.  Now I have learned and I love all the comments and giving back to the linux community.  


A few days ago I thought I came to a stand still but found other wallpapers or just looked at things I've seen throughout the day and thought that would look awesome as  theme LOL!!
